Short Title: Coordinating regional approaches for sustainable economy

Full title: Coordination and communication for model research projects on "Regional approaches for sustainable economy"

Objectives: Research for success factors and hurdles of different approaches to achieve sustainable economic structures at regional level

Summary: In 15 German regions the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research has initiated model projects to investigate potentials of the concept of regional economic development for sustainable production and consumption patterns. This research initiative is clustered in three topics:

  • "Agriculture and regional marketing", 
  • "Regional substance flow management" and 
  • "Strengthening regional potentials to meet regional needs".

The Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE), Frankfurt, Germany, is the scientific institution responsible for coordinationg exchange, deriving experiences on cross-cutting topics, and investigating possibilites of an optimization of the research initiative. In this project, ICLEI serves as international research agency, i.e. brings in international experience and disseminates the German experiences internationally.
